DUTIES OF THE SCHOOL
LIBRARIAN
The school librarian is expected to do
the following:-
1. Analyse the resource and information needs of
the school community.
2. Formulate and implement policies for service
development.
3. Develop acquisition policies and systems for
library resources.
4. Catalogue and classify library materials.
5. Instruct in library use.
6. Instruct in information knowledge and
information skills.
7. Assist students and teachers in the use of library
resources information technology.
8. Develop pupils effective and critical
response to texts.
9. Encourage creative thinking.
10.Stimulate
writing skills.
11.Celebrate
cultural diversity
12.Answer
reference and information enquiries using appropriate materials.
13.Promote
reading programmes and cultural events.
14.Participate
in planning activities connected to the implementation the curriculum.
15.Participate
in the preparation, implementation and evaluation learning activities.
16.Promote
the evaluation of library services as an intergral part of general school evaluation System.
17.Buil
partnership with external orgnisations.
18.Prepare
and implement budgets.
19.Design
strategic planning.
20.Manage
and train library staff.
